The Nines

[Note from Tim: When I originally posted this blog I made some disparaging comments towards two different church leaders, Brian McLaren and Dan Kimball.  While I hadn't set out to be malicious or unloving, my words definitely were.  I owe a huge apology to both of them for what I wrote and how my words may have influenced others.]

Yesterday I sat with the rest of the pastoral staff listening to a conference called “The Nines”, where pastors and leaders got 9 minutes to share with pastors in America.  The idea was that each leader was given 9 minutes to share whatever he or she wanted with the church leaders of the U.S.  And yes, it was on 9-9-09 and it did start at 9:09 am.  Anyway, I’m going to share below a few of the statements or ideas that I really liked:

Your ministry can only grow as big as your leadership team.

Remember those that you work for and what needs they have.

Are there 1 or 2 people who are safe places outside your ministry that you can go to?

Am I exposing myself to stretching experiences?

Steven Furtick: 1 Kings 17. “If the brook has dried up where you are, it’s not necessarily because you’re disobedient or because God has forgotten about you.  It may be that God wants you to move on to the next thing, to the next dimension of his glory and presence that he’s going to reveal to you.”

Craig Groeschel- “we’re always going to have the same values but our culture needs to always evolve.”

“Instead of recruiting volunteers we’re releasing volunteers to embrace leadership.”

“I’m going to seek God until I’m so full of God that ministry is a natural overflow of his love for me.”

Mark Batterson- “One God idea is worth more than 1,000 good ideas.”

I also realized that I’d like to listen more to Steven Furtick from Elevation church in Charlotte and more from Brad Bell from The Well in Fresno.

    Hello!

I’d love to hear from what I said on The Nines why you think it is weird theology. That’s a pretty serious thing to say. Can you please be specific and share what doctrines or teaching I gave that was not correct? Thank you!

Apologies, Dan. You didn’t say anything that was weird or bad theology and I apologize for what I had typed. Thanks for looking out for what others are saying and thinking, and thanks for the great work that you do at Vintage Faith.

What do you think?
